dog eye exam
Checking the conjunctiva is very simple. There is no special method, just open the upper and lower eyelids of the dog and then check it. During the check, the dog should be restrained to prevent bites.
The inspection items usually include the following:
1. Eyelid and secretions: If more serous, mucous or purulent secretions flow from the conjunctival sac, it is often related to febrile diseases and local inflammations that invade mucosal tissues.
2. Color of conjunctiva: The color of conjunctiva depends on the quantity and nature of blood in submucosal capillaries, as well as the content of bile pigments in blood and lymph.
1. Flushing: It is a sign of congestion of subconjunctival capillaries. The flushing of one eye may be caused by local conjunctivitis. If it is bilateral flushing, it may be not only eye disease, but also the whole body.
2. Pale: The color of the conjunctiva of the eye is pale or even gray, which is the characteristic of anemia.
3. Cyanosis: It is blue-purple, which is the result of increased reduced hemoglobin in the blood or the formation of a large amount of deformed hemoglobin.
4. Jaundice: The conjunctiva of the eye is stained yellow, and it is easier to find in the sclera.
