Golden Retriever (details)
The blood pressure of dogs fluctuates with environmental changes, changes in age, changes in physical fitness and other factors.
Normal blood pressure in dogs: systolic blood pressure: 95-136mmHg; diastolic blood pressure: 43.7-73mmHg; 1mmHg=133.322Pa
I. Etiology
The occurrence of this disease is directly related to the starvation state or nutritional stress caused by various reasons such as reduced feed intake and low nutrition.
Kidney disease is an important factor in causing high blood pressure.
Hyperthyroidism, with studies showing that 87% of cats with hyperthyroidism and untreated hyperthyroidism have high blood pressure, is generally considered the leading cause of high blood pressure in dogs.
2. Symptoms
The sick dog is depressed, loses appetite, weak and unwilling to move.
Eye: Most dogs will find retinal damage during fundus examination, such as retinal hemorrhage, edema, detachment, etc., pupil dilation or pupil size, which may lead to blindness (sudden or gradual).
CNS, depression, epilepsy, vestibular symptoms, ataxia, head tilt, death.
Heart failure, overt heart failure (uncommon), systolic murmur, galloping horse, cardiac hypertrophy, arterial widening/circuitry, ventricular hypertrophy.

III. Diagnosis method
A large number of dogs with high blood pressure are detected through screening, and blood pressure must be checked if the dog has the above diseases.
1. When should blood pressure be measured?
When the dog has a hyphema, retinal detachment, blindness, heart disease, neurological symptoms, or a condition known to cause high blood pressure.
2. Measurement method
There are generally two types of blood pressure measurement methods in dogs: direct and indirect.
Direct Method: The oldest and most precise method of measurement is the "direct measurement method".
Indirect measurement method: the measurable parts are the femoral artery, brachial artery, superficial digital artery (forelimb), dorsal digital artery (hind limb), and tail artery.
3. There are two types
Use the Oscillometric System (oscillometric system), but the oscillometric system is not suitable for small dogs.
Using the Doppler System (Doppler System) measurement method, the Doppler system can be applied to dogs of any size, but generally only measures systolic blood pressure, and requires professionally trained personnel to operate to ensure the reliability of the results.
4. The white coat effect
Stress due to medical staff measurements raises blood pressure.
IV. Treatment
First of all, the pathogenic factors should be removed. Oral or intravenous injection of glycine, 100~200ml/kg body weight, should be used for about 2 weeks, depending on the condition of the dog.
Keep the dog in a relaxed and happy mood and avoid excessively strenuous activities.
